From the north and south entries into Guyra; travel on the New England Highway to the Caltex Truckstop approx. 1km north of Guyra township, turn at Caltex onto Falconer Road, drive 1.34km to 'Kenilworth' situated on the right hand side.

'Kenilworth' history When Derek's grandparents moved to 'Kenilworth', there was an earthen floor cottage set closer to the road. You can still see where it was situated by the old apricot tree in the front paddock. Len & Lil Smith built the Californian Bungalow in the late 40's and in the early 80's the home still had most of the original features from when it was first built. When Derek and Fiona married in 1984 changes started to happen over time, new paint job, carpet, wood heater, gardens restored and expanded. The major extension work, commenced in 2006, and is still in progress. We had to wait three years before the right builder was found and with the commodities and housing boom it was hard to get started. But slowly we are getting there, with most of the external work completed and now only the northern interior to finish. Then of course the new gardens, path ways, fences and a courtyard are still to be done. Our neighbour, (Fox) did the stone fireplace and stone garage. We have really appreciated the work and effort that everyone has put into the old home and they were a pleasure to be around and work with. |
